HAROLD V. LUCAS, JR. FOUNDATION FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

TO BE RECOGNIZED BY THE DAYTONA TORTUGAS

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - On Saturday, April 9th Mr. Harold V. Lucas, Jr., will be recognized by the Daytona Tortugas for being a former member of the Daytona Red Wings, a semi-professional Black baseball team. The recognition is a part of the Barrier Breakers Series presented by the African American Entrepreneurs Association in conjunction with the Tortugas. The recognition will take place during the Tortugas game against the St. Lucie Mets.

During the 4 game series (April 9, June 10, July 8, and Aug. 12), individuals who have made significant contributions to baseball and community will be highlighted as part of Minor League Baseball's The Nine initiative. Other honorees during the series will include local teams and players with ties to the Negro Leagues; Johnny Wright, who broke professional baseball's color barrier with Jackie Robinson in 1946 right here in Daytona Beach; Mary McLeod Bethune, who helped make it possible for Robinson and Wright to make history in Daytona Beach; and Kelly Field, the venue where Robinson and Wright trained that also served as a social hub of the community.

The game is 7:05 p.m. Saturday, April 9th at the historic Jackie Robinson Memorial Ballpark, 105 E. Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Gates open at 6pm. Be sure to arrive early to visit the Harold V. Lucas, Jr. Foundation exhibit table and others during the pre-game African American Entrepreneurs Showcase.
